When can we omit "put simply" in a sentence?

More often than not, you can remove the phrase put simply from your work. Put simply is unnecessary exposition that doesn't add anything to your writing. In fact, it increases wordiness without any added benefit.

Original: Put simply, the department needs to increase revenue or we will look at alternatives.

Rewrite: The department needs to increase revenue or we will look at alternatives.
