ProWritingAid + AI: Our philosophy

At ProWritingAid, we know there’s real controversy around generative AI. Our users have told us clearly: they don’t want AI to write their stories for them. They want tools that give feedback, spark inspiration, and help them grow as writers. That’s where we focus.

We also recognize that unresolved issues remain around how AI models are trained. We believe authors deserve fair compensation for their work, and we will continue to advocate for that on behalf of our community.

Our promise is simple: ProWritingAid exists to empower writers, never to replace them.

Our promises to you

We will never use your writing to train our algorithms

All of our features uphold our privacy promise to never access your text or use it to train our algorithms. We only use your text to help you improve your writing. Nothing else. Period.

We will only create features that our users want

All our products and features will be created in dialogue with our users wants and needs. We will never produce tools intended to supplant human creativity.

We will always advocate on behalf of writers

We will continue working with companies such as Anthropic to make sure authors receive fair compensation whenever their works contribute to the training of Large Language Models (LLMs).

Frequently asked questions

Does ProWritingAid write for me?

None of ProWritingAid’s AI features are intended to write for you, but rather to help you find inspiration. You remain in complete control and can rewrite or decline any and all suggestions or switch off those features altogether.

Is my writing safe with ProWritingAid?

Data privacy is one of our core driving principles. You have our full transparency on how we secure your text and data.

Do you use models trained on data without permission?

Some of our features use Large Language Models (LLMs) developed by leading providers in the field of generative AI. We believe strongly that authors, creators, and publishers deserve to be fairly compensated when their work contributes to AI systems. This is an area of active legal and regulatory debate, and we are committed to following developments closely and advocating for outcomes that protect authors while allowing innovation to flourish. Our focus is on giving storytellers tools that respect their craft and privacy while ensuring that the broader ecosystem develops in a fair and ethical way.

Will AI make my writing less original?

We won’t change your text directly unless you accept suggestions generated by any of our features. You can just use the information you gain from our reports to know what you need to focus on to improve your text. Any writing will be your own.

Who owns the text written with ProWritingAid?

You own the rights to your writing and we do not have any rights to any content created by you. If you use any of our AI features to change your writing, we don’t claim ownership of the result. You’ll own the rights to that content unless someone else has previously created it.
