Generational reading habits revealed

In a new infographic, Best By The Numbers explored the reading habits of the 5 generations: Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, Baby Boomers and the Silent Generation. And some of their findings may surprise you.

Millennials are actually the bookworm generation.

80% of Millennials have read a book in the past 12 months – more than anyone else. They are also the demographic most likely to visit a library.

Despite the proliferation of new reading technology (think e-readers, smartphones, and tablets), every generation still prefers print books to digital ones. Even the youngest generation, Gen Z.

While the full effects of the coronavirus are yet to be known for the publishing industry, what this infographic shows is that every generation is reading more since lockdown began. In fact, Gen Z has increased their reading more than the other generations.

And something a little fun? French Baby Boomers are more likely to read sexy books than their Millennial counterparts. The French are clearly ageing well.
