  4. 4) Bonus Course: Grammar Lion

1) Business Writing: University of Colorado, Boulder, on Coursera

I love Coursera. You can get free access to a ton of university classes. Going back to school isn’t an option for many writers. If you are interested in business writing, this course is the one for you.

The entire course takes about thirteen hours to complete. You could do it all this weekend! It covers everything you need to know to break into the field and write successfully. Even experienced business writers will learn something from this class.

2) Freelance Writing: Elna Cain’s Write Your Way to Your First $1K

If you’re going to spend money learning about freelance writing, shouldn’t you learn from one of the leading experts? Elna Cain became a successful freelance writer with no experience. But she has established herself as one of the top in the industry.

Earning your first thousand dollars can be hard, but once you have the experience, finding clients is a lot easier. Elna breaks down everything you need to know about pitching, writing, and finding jobs. You also get access to her private Facebook group, and she’ll review one of your pitches! It’s $195 and you can choose to pay in three installments.

3) Fiction Writing: Jerry Jenkins’ Your Novel Blueprint

This fiction writing course is the most expensive on the list, but it’s completely worth it if you want to write a bestseller and build a career as a novelist. Jerry has written nearly 200 books, and he’s been on the New York Times’ Bestseller list 21 times. It’s safe to say he knows what he’s doing.

This course has 58 modules on everything you need to know about writing your novel. It’s basically a creative writing degree for much cheaper. You also get video feedback about your story idea from Jerry himself, access to a mastermind session with him, and the first ten pages of your manuscript critiqued.

This course is $1,997. Consider it an investment in your future. You won’t regret it.

4) Bonus Course: Grammar Lion

If there’s one course that all writers need to take, it’s a grammar course. Grammar can make or break your writing career. Writing software and proofreaders can help some, but wouldn’t it be nice to make less mistakes to begin with?

Grammar Lion: A Grammar Refresher takes you back to basics. Maybe you always struggled with grammar in school, or maybe it’s just been a while. This course will explain the rules of English grammar in a way you can understand, plus you’ll get quizzes to practice the skills. It’s perfect for native English speakers and non-native speakers alike.

Grammar Lion’s course is usually $199, but check for specials! At the time of this blog, there was a quarantine special for $79.
